IT Industry in Karnataka is thriving at a great pace and is also contributing a lot to its economy. The state generates a huge amount of revenue from software exports. Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka is the major IT hub in the state. According to the reports of the year 2006-2007, Software exports from Bangalore(capital city of Karnataka) amounted to excess of 48,7000 crores. Bangalore, Mysore,Mangalore and Hubli are the cities of Karnataka which are dotted with several IT Industries. Most of the IT Industries are located in Bangalore because of which it is known as the 'Silicon Valley' of India.

The history of Karnataka's emergence as an IT hub dates back to the year 1980. Today around 1937 IT companies have been established in the sate. Highly renowned companies like Infosys and Wipro have headquarters in the capital city of Karnataka. The first IT company who set up their base in Bangalore was Texas Instruments in 1985.

The IT Industries in Karnataka are engaged in the fields such as telecommunication, banking software, avionics, database, automotive, networking, semi-conductors, mobile handsets, internet applications and business process outsourcing. Some of the known IT companies in Karnataka are Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, National Aerospace Laboratories, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited,Bharat Earth Movers Limited, Hindustan Motors and Hindustan Machine Tools. The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is one of the largest public sector employers.
