Tipu's Summer Palace, SringapatnamSrirangapatna is an island town located in the Mandhya district of Karnataka. The nearby city is Mysore. This island town holds immense religious, cultural and historic significance. The whole town is surrounded by river Kaveri adding charm to it. The town was named after the famous Sri Ranganathaswamy temple located in it. This temple has made the town a celebrated pilgrimage destination of Hindus. It was constructed during the 9th century by the Ganga dynasty. The town is dotted with beautiful palaces, temples and Mosques which attracts many travellers.


Srirangapatna was once ruled by Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. Tipu Sultan was known as “The tiger of Mysore”. It was the place where the last battle was fought between Tipu Sultan and the British. It was fought in 1799 and resulted in the tragic death of Tipu Sultan.


Attractions:


Srirangapatnam Palace: It is truly an epitome of beauty. It holds immense historic importance as it the place where Tipu Sultan was killed by the British in Srirangapatnam battle. Tipu Sultan used to make rockets and missiles in this palace. The palace also houses the famous Sri Ranganathaswamy temple dedicated to lord Vishnu. It is an architectural marvel of the 19th century. In the temple you can spot 24 different forms of Lord Vishnu.


Tipu's Summer Palace: Basking in the glory of beauty and luxury, the Tipu Sultan's summer palace spreads over 400 acres of land. He nicknamed it ' Rashk-e-Jannat' or 'Envy of Heaven'. It is a double storied structure reflecting the medieval architecture. Inspired by the Windsor Castle(one of the most beautiful castle in the world), Tipu Sultan put his heart and soul into building the palace.


Cuisine:

Ragi rotti, akki roti, Kosambari, Bisi bele bath are the famous vegetarian dishes. The non vegetarian dishes are Mutton and Chiken pulao.

 

How To Reach:

Air: Bangalore is the nearest airport.
Rail: Regular trains from Bangalore and Mysore .
Road: Good network of roads connect the city with all the main cities of South India.


Accommodation:

Several hotels catering to different needs of the tourists are available in the city. Hotel Mayura River View and Ambelee Hotel Resort are quite famous.


Climate:

The best time to visit the town is between October to March.


Shopping:

You can flock to Mysore(located nearby) for buying beautiful Silk saris. You can head for Government Silk Factory-Jhansi Lakshmibai road for buying silk fabric. Sandalwood, rosewood and teakwood objects are also famous.
