Veerbhadra Temple

Hampi is a major destination of Karnataka when it comes to brilliant temples. Perched on the highest point in Hampi, the Veerabhadra temple is located at the Matanga hilltop. It is blessed with peaceful ambiance. Despite being in ruins, the temple attracts a lot of tourists from far and wide. It is dedicated to the cult deity Veerabhadra. Belonging to the Siva lineage, the Veerabhadra deity is held in high esteem by the people of Hampi. Trekking is an exciting option to reach the temple. A flight of steps lead to the temple. On the way to the main shrine you will come across several shrines and pavilions.

As soon as you come face to face with the courtyard you will notice a lamppost just outside its entrance. Also noteworthy is the archway of the courtyard. The main gate of the temple is quite simple. The terrace of the temple offers a bird eye view of the town. Tourists flock to the terrace for savouring great sunset and sunrise. The tower of the main shrine looks impressive. Its tower is decorated with beautiful stucco figures which speak volumes about the art and architecture of the bygone era. Another temple dedicated to Veerabhadra is the Uddana Veerabhadra temple which is situated nearby.
