Your tour to Karnataka is incomplete without getting acquainted with one of its architectural marvel, Vidhan Saudha. It houses the State Legislative Assembly of Karnataka and part of the Secretariat. Built in the year 1952, it is the largest Secretariat in India. Kengal Hanumanthaiah, the then Chief Minister of Mysore State was entrusted with the responsibility of designing and constructing the Vidhan Soudha. He travelled to Europe, Russia, United States and other countries to collect some ideas for the construction of Vidhan Soudha. The building is a result of the combination of several styles from several buildings across the World. Its completion took four years and 5000 labourers, 1500 chisellers, masons and wood carvers put in their hard work in giving Vidhan Soudha its present form. Jawahar \lal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India laid the foundation of Vidhan Saudha on July 13, 1951.
