Beaches Trivandrum

The sun kissed beaches of Trivandrum occupy a prized place in the itinerary of the tourists flocking to Kerala for holidays.

Some of the famous beaches here are:

Kovalam Beach:

Located at 12 km from Trivandrum, Kovalam beach attract tourists from far and wide. Azure waters of the sea instil wonderful feelings in heart. Earlier this beach was a favourite destination of hippies but now one and all come here for pleasurable holidays.  It is dotted with several luxurious and budget hotels. It also has Ayurveda centres which offer blissful massages and treatments. The most celebrated beaches of Kovalam are the Light House beach, the Hawa beach and the Samudra beach. These beaches offer facilities for exciting water sports. The evenings at these beaches are made memorable by cultural programmes.

Shanghumugham Beach:

It is located near the Trivandrum Airport, only 8 km from the city. This beach attracts travellers for its various attractions such as the children's traffic training park, the indoor recreation club, the matsya kanyaka, a huge 35m long sculpture of a mermaid. The beach also has a great restaurant fashioned to resemble a star fish.

Varkala Beach:

It is a small beach but a big hit with tourists. It is a known pilgrimage centre of the locals there. The legend goes that the sage Narada flung a cloth made from the bark of a tree into the air and it dropped at the place where the town Varkala stands today. Later his disciples prayed at the newly created beach for salvation. This beach is also known as the “Beach of Redemption”.The beach houses a memorial of Sree Narayan Guru on a hill. Every day numerous devotees come here to pay their respect to the sage. Varkala is a famous resort and spa of Kerala. It has natural springs. Ayurveda massages and Yoga centres are the other attractions here.
