About The Park

A home to endangered Nilgiri Tahar(ibex whose closest relative is sheep), Eravikulam National Park sprawls over an area of 97 sq km along the Western Ghats of India. The largest population of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr is found here. Other inhabitants are ruddy mongoose, Nilgiri marten, dusky striped squirrel, Nilgiri langur, sambar, Goden jackel, jungle cat, Tiger, Leopard,elephant, stripe-necked mongoose, Indian porcupine, small clawed otter and wild dog. The park is maintained by the Kerala Department of Forest and Wildlife. UNESCO World Heritage Committee is considering the Park to be selected as a World Heritage Site.

Black-and-orange Flycatcher, Nilgiri Pipit, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Yellow-Throated Marten, White Bellied Shortwing, NilgirVerditer Flycatcher are some of the bird species (out of the 132 bird species) found here. Beautiful and colourful butterflies can also be spotted in the park. The park is also a home to 19 amphibian species.

The landscape of the Park is dotted with grasslands, shrubs and forests. Another attraction is the 2695 m high peak known as Anamudi. The scenic beauty of the Eravikulam National Park is mind blowing.

The park operates six mini buses for the visitors. Private vehicles are not allowed inside the park.
