Munnar Kerala


Nigiri Tahr, Munnar KeralaServing beauty in plenty, Munnar is a small hill station towering to a height of 1600 m . The landscape of the hill station is dotted with lush green fauna, lakes, reservoirs, forests and tea plantations. The place is very peaceful. Come spend your holidays here and go back home with memories which will remain fresh forever. Here you can participate in activities such as trekking, boating, riding, and fishing. Munnar is the proud home of the largest peak of South India, Anamudi. Its height is 2695 m. Also the hill station is famous for its tea and coffee plantations.


Attractions:


Eravikulam National Park: A home to the endangered Nigiri Tahr, Eravikulam National Park covers an area of 97 sq km. Some of  the other inhabitants here are ruddy mongoose, nilgiri marten, dusky striped squirrel, nilgiri langur, sambhar, Golden jackel, jungle cat, tiger, leopard, elephant and Indian porcupine. Best time to visit the Park is between March-November. Enjoy the scenery of the Park which is a combination of grassland, shrubs and forests.


Devikulam: Located at a distance of 7 km from Munnar is an impressive hill station called Devikulam. The meaning of Deviculam is 'the lake or pond of Devi'. According to the legend, goddess Sita took a bath in the lake at Deviculam. The waters of the lake is believed to have curative powers. Devikulam is a hot stop in Kerala and is visited by a lot of tourists.


Tea and Coffee Plantations: Munnar is famous for its tea and coffee plantations. The aroma of tea and coffee will give you a different experience all together. See the plucking of tea leaves and their processing. Take some tea and coffee back home.


Anamudi: Anamudi,the highest peak in South India, is an ideal place for trekking. Facilities for trekking are also provided here. Grab the opportunity and set out on an adventurous trip.


Climate:

No where in South India you will be rewarded by such a pleasant climate as in Munnar.

Air: The nearest airport is at Cochin.
Rail: The nearby railway stations are at Cochin and Kottayam.
Road: Munnar is well connected with all the major cities of South India by a network of road.
