Periyar Kerala/ Thekkady


Periyar National Park, Periyar KeralaThe mesmerizing land of Periyar is located in the high ranges of the Western Ghats in Kerala. It is a major wildlife tourist destination in the state. Periyar is also known as Thekkady.


Attractions:

Periyar National Park:

It is a home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Here one can spot the wild animals without much pain and wait. The National Park was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978. Over the years, it has contributed in increasing the population of Tiger. The attractions within the Park are its 62 kinds of mammal species, 320 bird species, 45 reptile species, 38 fish species and 160 butterfly species.


Periyar Lake:

It is a beautiful lake offering fantastic boat rides. Heightening your pleasure, the boat rides give an opportunity to spot the wildlife when they come to the lake for quenching their thirst. Enjoy the picturesque views of the surroundings of the lake.


Climate:

The most propitious time to visit Periyar if between October- April.


How To Reach:

Air: The nearest airport is at Madurai.
Rail: The nearest railway station is at Kottayam.
Road: Periyar is connected by a network of roads to all the major cities of Kerala.
