Kamakshi Amman Temple

Kamakshi Amman Temple Kanchipuram, TamilnaduSituated in the Kanchipuram town of Tamil Nadu, the enchantinf Kamakashi Amman Temple is an abode of the goddess Kamakshi, one of the forms of goddess Parvati(Lord Shiva's consort). The temple was built by the great Pallavas who are still remembered for constructing such a captivating architectural jewel. Contrary to the standing pose of the goddess in most of the temples, the goddess Parvati is seated in Padmasana posture(sitting posture)in Kamakshi Amman Temple.

Holding a sugarcane bow, lotus flower and parrot in the lower two hands and two instruments in the two upper hands, the goddess symbolizes peace and marital bliss.

Kamakshi Amman Temple is linked with a celebrated Hindu sage named Adi Sankaracharya. He had enshrined a Sri Chakra in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Since then this Chakra is worshipped every day. The Chakra is known as the Kamakoti Peeta.

Within the boundary of the temple lies several beautiful mandaps such as the Dwajaarohana mandap which has 100 pillars. The temple also has a tank . The strong walls of the temple are pierced with four gateways in all the foul directions. The richness of the temple can be best seen in its golden vimanam. Each day four worship services are offered to the goddess. Festivals such  as Silver Chariot festival, Navaratri, Aadi and Aippasi Pooram are celebrated with great passion in the Kamakshi Amman Temple.
