Trichy India

Trichy city is dotted with beautiful monuments, temples, churches and mosques.  It is located on the banks of river Kaveri and is a famous tourist destination in Tamil Nadu. It was once the the capital of the Cholas. Later it also became the capital of Madurai Nayak. It is a known commercial centre of Tamil Nadu and famous for its artificial diamonds, cigars and cheroots. It is the fourth largest city of Tamil Nadu.

Attractions:

Rock Fort Temple:It is a cluster of three temples – the Manikka Vinayakar temple at the foot of the hill, the Uchhi Pillayar Koyil at the top of the hill and the Taayumaanavar Koyil(Shivastalam) on the hill. The history of these temples dates back to the 7th century. Even today after a spell of several centuries, they hold their old-world charm. Dedicated to lord Shiva and lord Ganesha, the temples boast of grand halls, carved pillars and peaceful ambiance. From the top of the hill you can enjoy the view of the famous rock cut cave temples situated nearby. Festivals celebrated in these temples are Brahmotsavam, Aadi Pooram and the Float Festival.

Srirangam Temple: Srirangam Temple is dedicated to lord Ranganatha, one of the forms of Lord Vishnu. It is located in Srirangam at 5 km from Trichy. It is the largest temple in India and is held in high reverence by Hindus. It is surrounded by seven fortified walls. It houses twenty one beautiful Gopurams and the tallest one towers to a height of 236 feet. It is the second largest Gopuram in Asia. You will be thrilled to see its amazingly carved sculptures and carvings touching various mythological themes.

Language:

Tamil is the primary language of the city. Other languages spoken here are Telgu, Malayalam and Hindi.

Festivals:

Festivals are celebrated with oodles of fervour in Trichy. Unique in their concept, some of the festivals of Trichy are Garuda Seva, Mohini Alangaram, and Vaikunta Ekadasi. The most celebrated festival of the city is the Float Festival(March-April) held at the Rock Fort temple.

Shopping:

Scan the bazaars of Trichy for its famous brass ware, musical instruments,cigars, carpets, jewellery, artificial diamonds, handloom textiles, pith models of temples, silk,glass bangles and wooden and clay toys. Some of the hot spots for buying the famous items are the Big Bazar street, Khadi Kraft, Junction Road, Poompuhar Sales Emporium and Saraswati Stores.

Climate:

The Summer is quite hot in Trichy. In summer the temperature ranges from 41.10ºC(max) to 36.40ºC(min). While in the Winter the temperature varies from 21.31ºC(max) to 18.60ºC(min). Trichy receives little rainfall.
