A mesmerizing conglomeration of three temples whose history dates back to the 7th century is none other than the famous Rock Fort Temple. These Hindu temples are located in Trichi city and were built by the Nayaks who were also the founder of the city. The three temples are: The Manikka Vinayaka temple situated at the foot of the rock, the Uchhi Pillayar Koyil percehed on the top of the rock? and the Taayumaanava Koyil(Shivastalam) on the rock.. These temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha. The astonishing fact about these temples is that they were established on a rock which is 83 m in height and is known to be one of the oldest rock in the world. Once this area was used for military purposes and hence came to be known as the? rock fort.
As you climb up the stairs, in the middle of the rock? you will come face to face with a Shiva temple called Thayumanaswamy. It houses a beautiful Lingam (stone statue of Shiva) and the statue of goddess Parvati, his consort. It boasts of? a huge hall with around hundred pillars. Don't miss its Vimana which is enveloped in gold. As you move ahead you will see the Pillayar Ganesha temple.? The responsibility of maintenaining these temples has been taken up by the Archaeological Department Of India. The location of these temples offer great views of the nearby rock cut cave temples and the rivers Kaveri and Kollidam.
In the rock fort temples, Puja(worship service) is performed six times a day. The festivals celebrated in these temples are Brahmotsavam, Aadi Pooram and the Float festival.
