Connecting different cities, the Railway was started in the month of October in 1985.Its symbol is KR. It has two headquarters, one at Ratnagiri in Maharashtra and Karwar in Karnataka. The introduction of the KR has connected the two major port cities Mumbai and Mangalore which were so far unconnected. The connection of these two cities was very important as it held sheer economic importance. Due to the unevenness of the region the connection was not materializing but KR made it possible. National leaders such as Madhu Dandavate and George Fernandes played a crucial role in materializing the concept of Konkan Railway.
